Gracenote is seeking a full-time entry-level Database Engineer to join our Core Database Team. As part of the Database Team, you will have the opportunity to continue the development and enhancement of Gracenote's world famous CDDB music recognition service, fingerprint matching services, and other leading products. These products power industry leading applications such as Apple iTunes, RealOne, Winamp, and Sony Sonic Stage. Gracenote services are also being delivered in cell phone applications throughout the world, including USA, Brazil, Japan, and Korea.
As an entry-level Database Engineer, you will aid in the design and development of specific database or content applications features as well as work on troubleshooting outstanding issues. You will work with a team of other engineers and will receive the majority of your direction from them, as well as your direct manager. Your time will be primarily spent on task-oriented work, with specific goals and objectives clearly defined. This approach will change over time to more assignment-oriented work as your experience grows.
On a technical front, you will be expected to have a good understanding of relational databases (Oracle experience is a plus), internet technologies, general systems hardware and software infrastructure, and one or more programming languages. Specific technologies you will be exposed to over time include: Oracle, SQL, perl, XML, XML-RPC, UML, PL/SQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle APEX, relational database DML and DDL, C, HTML, Java, and UNIX, among others.
The successful candidate will have a solid educational foundation, good communication skills, the ability to take direction well, plus a strong desire to work in the exciting field of digital music technology.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Four year college degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of relational databases.
- Exposure to unix as a development system.
- Experience with at least one of the following programming languages: Java, C, C++, ruby, python, perl.
- Basic understanding of internet technologies such as FTP, HTML, XML, HTTP.
- Understanding of current software design practices and software project management methodologies, such as agile and waterfall.
- Ability to work in a team and take direction well.
- Can work with supervisor to plan tasks and estimate their completion.
- Can adapt to changing conditions.
- Enthusiastic about Gracenote’s space in music and movies and eager to develop Gracenote products and services.
