Gracenote APIs Expand to Support Deezer Music Service
EMERYVILLE, Calif. – April 3, 2014 – Gracenote®, the leader in music recognition and discovery technology, announced that it will add Deezer song IDs into its database to enable developers to easily build Deezer Apps using Gracenote’s Rhythm™ discovery and MusicID® recognition APIs. Gracenote will preview the Deezer integration during Music Hack Day Paris on April 5-6, hosted at Deezer’s headquarters, followed by wider distribution and access to the global developer community in the coming weeks.
The partnership with Deezer is another example of how Gracenote is building a universal platform for developers to create Apps and services that connect across the world’s top music services. Music Hack Day developers will be able to tap into Gracenote’s music APIs to create Web and mobile applications that help Deezer users explore genres, and identify and discover new artists and tracks. Linking Gracenote Rhythm directly with the Deezer API allows developers to build Internet Radio features, recommendation services and playlisting Apps that connect with Deezer’s vast catalog of more than 30 million songs.
“The integration with Gracenote will enable developers to build a whole new range of music Apps that integrate with our service”, said Julie Knibbe, Developer Advocacy Lead for Deezer. “Whether they want to tag a song while standing in line at a café or create playlists based on their mood, Gracenote’s API will enable new experiences for Deezer fans. We’re excited to see how the developer community is going to leverage these capabilities.”
Gracenote continues to add even more value to its suite of APIs. Gracenote’s music recognition and discovery APIs are built upon the world’s largest source of music metadata. Gracenote data focuses on six main categories such as genre of the song, mood, era the song was recorded, tempo, origin or region most associated with the artist and artist type. These descriptive music characteristics are used to make deep connections between artists and tracks, letting developers create radio stations and playlists based on similar songs and artists.
“We want to build a simple and trusted platform that connects developers with leading music services from around the world,” said Eric Allen, vice president of Services for Gracenote. “The integration with Deezer drives even more choice for the developer community to create the music service of their dreams. Using Gracenote APIs, Music Hack Day hackers can fuel discovery for the avid music fan who wants a service that can help them discover new songs whenever and wherever they are.”
Earlier this year, Gracenote also announced that it will begin incorporating popularity and trending data from leading industry sources such as Next Big Sound and Musicmetric into its new Gracenote Rhythm™ music Discovery and Internet Radio platform. Combined with Gracenote’s own metadata, editorial expertise and powerful algorithms, developers can expect the right balance of popular and emerging artists within its products across all genres in the near future.
