Gracenote supports Samsung’s new radio streaming service in Australia, New Zealand
EMERYVILLE, Calif. –– April 7, 2015 – Gracenote®, the global leader in entertainment data and technology, is supporting Samsung’s Milk Music™, a new digital radio streaming service for Galaxy smartphone and tablet owners, in Australia and New Zealand. Gracenote Rhythm™, a music recommendation and discovery platform, will power personalized playlists for Milk Music’s “Create Stations” feature. The radio service is available for immediate download in the Google Play™ and Galaxy Apps.
Samsung’s Milk Music features more than 150 curated stations. The “Create Stations” feature, powered by Gracenote Rhythm, allows listeners to create personal stations by selecting a band or artist as a seed. Once a listener creates a station, Gracenote taps its music intelligence that draws deep connections between artists and tracks to serve up a customized music stream.
Gracenote also layers popularity and trending data to help uncover new and emerging artists and tracks. Gracenote Rhythm harnesses the power of the world’s largest source of music metadata of more than 200 million tracks, a global team of music experts and Gracenote-powered algorithms to generate localized listening experiences anywhere around the world.
“With Milk Music and Gracenote, we are offering consumers an amazing and rich music experience personalized around what matters to them and their lifestyle,” said Nicholas Wodtke, vice president, Media Solution Centre, Southeast Asia and Oceania, Samsung Electronics. “We are confident of our fresh and innovative approach to music that keeps the focus on the consumer, creating best-in-class experiences for our customers.”
Gracenote Rhythm gives music fans control of their experience by incorporating listener feedback to fine-tune its song selections based on what they favorite or choose to “never play” again. The more listeners use Samsung’s Milk Music, the smarter Gracenote’s algorithms become to deliver more relevant music based on their listening history, musical preferences and relevant genre, era, origin, artist type, tempo and mood. The end results are beautifully crafted music stations and channels across all genres.
“Music is very personal and being able to understand a listener’s appetite for specific genres and openness to new music allows us to deliver a better listening experience,” said Ty Roberts, chief strategy officer and co-founder, Gracenote. “Gracenote Rhythm is a global platform that can scale with our customers as they deploy around the world. It combines the power of our world class metadata, real human insights and unique algorithm to drive a new level of discovery and re-discovery of the music they love as well as music they might love.”
